St Bernadette was made a saint in December 8, 1933.
She had the visions of "The Lady", which turned out to be Mother Mary.
The Church approved Lourdes, the place where the visions happened, as a suitable place for devotions. Hence, pilgrimages to Lourdes to pray to Our Lady of Lourdes began.1933
Following the events of the apparitions a papal investigation was founded. After long deliberation and careful examination of the evidence it was declared that the visions of the Virgin Mary really did occur at the Grotto of Lourdes.
Bernadette Soubirous received Beatification in 1925 and Canonization in 1933 under Pope Pius XI, not so much for the content of her visions, but rather for her simplicity and holiness of her life. She is the patron saint of sick persons and also of the family. St.Bernadette brought crowds of people to wash and drink of the water of the spring that had welled up from the very spot where Bernadette had been instructed to dig and all the people were cured.
