Welcome to Religion Answers. What would you like to know?

  • Nuns usually have finished high school, and in many instances have completed one tertiary degree.
  • Nuns are not married, although widows may become nuns in some religious traditions - they may have their adult children visit them. This is not uncommon.
  • Nuns are usually committed to seeking the true self within, in their religious tradition. They are found in Jainism, (Acharayini) Buddhism, (called Bhikkhuni) Christianity, Zen, Hinduism (called Brahmacarini) and Tibetan Buddhism.
  • Nuns usually undertake a time of training and settlement within the religious community they join. This is called a Novitiate, and the nuns are called novices at that time.
