Welcome to Religion Answers. What would you like to know?

It depends on your religion. But it is not a crime. Masturbation involves stimulation of one's own genitals to the point of orgasm.

From a spiritual point of view, sin is that which separates you from your deity or God. Sin severs that relationship. Brings it to a halt.

From a behavioural point of view, sin is an act which transgresses a moral code specified or given by a deity or God.

From the point of view of a Christian, (specifically Catholicism) sin involves will, i.e., decision or choice to act or behave in a certain manner which transgresses the moral codes of Christianity. There are three philosophical criteria which must exist before one is considered to be sinning. There must be full knowledge, full consent to act, and an intention to act.

Sin is that which severs your relationship with God. If you have religious problems with masturbation, then you need to look at common sense, and your own values, and your own personal moral code.

Compulsive masturbation, like all other compulsive behaviours, is a sign of an emotional problem and needs to be addressed by a mental health specialist. It is better to address compulsive behaviour than try to repress it, where it may emerge or cause other problems, such as psycho-sexual dysfunction.
