  • Sikhs worship in a building called a gurdwara.
  • This is the sikh term for holy building set aside for worship
  • The prayer is bhajan and reciting the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book.
This is a gurdwara

  • Sikhs do community service
  • This is selfless service to your neighbour
  • This service is done as a service unto God who is the inner resident in the heart of the other person. Thus, the Sikh does not seek any recompense, favour or return for such community service.
  • This is called action free from the consequences of the action, nishkama karma

  • Sikhs can pray daily in the home

For Sikhs, God is an abstract form. They don't use any pictures or statues.

  • Sikhs repeat the gurumantra, Wadhe Guru - 15 minutes
  • They also meditate on Ek Onkaar sloka, the credal statement of faith of the Sikh.
  • The Ek Onkaar states: "There is only one God and Creator" . This is the first line of Guru Nanak's Mul Mantra and it is recited by every Khalsa Sikh each morning. Many consider it the Sikh creed as it communicates the Sikh belief in a single, universal god as opposed to the traditional Hindu polytheism.
