  • Catholic teaching is founded on the New Testament and the clarification of teachings from the Church Councils - these are called doctrine and dogma
  • The catholic teaching on faith and morals is overseen by the Roman Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith - it has an explicit charter from the Pope to do this. It is this body which issues declarations on abortion, homosexuality and same-sex marriages, in-vitro fertilisation, therapeutic cloning, the divine nature of Jesus Christ, along with pronoucements on heresy.
