Welcome to Religion Answers. What would you like to know?

In western civilisation, being a priest is called priesthood.

When a man is ordained a priest, the Bishop or the Presbytery ordains them for service as priest. A priest serves in the mission of the Church. So priesthood is less about having advantages or status and more about serving in the mission of the Church, or in any other religion. Priests may have functions in the community with births, deaths and marriages and other important cultural markers in life.
